2024
December 22, 2024 – What are you doing on a Sunday afternoon?? Bryan is installing a new floor in our loading dock area at One Church Street. All materials were donated by Ruby and Quiri and Bryan has decided to give up some of his weekend time in order to get this done for us. Talk about a Christmas gift! Thank you Bryan and Ruby & Quiri !!!

December 12, 2024 – Adirondack Food Network System Roundtable – Happening now….Round table conversation and tour of OCS with Adirondack Food System network and stakeholders. So exciting!!

December 3, 2024 – OCS gives to our community!! 200 nourishing breakfasts we’re shared with our neighbors and it took just about an hour! Thanks to Fage USA Dairy Industry Inc and Antonucci’s Wholesale Produce for the yogurt and apples!! !!! Thanks to Mike (Santa Mike), Tom and Nancy for braving the cold and the traffic!!! GivingTuesday –give to what you love.

November 5, 2024 – The Beer, Wine and Chocolate Tasting, a fundraiser for NOAH and the Johnstown Food Pantry, was held last Friday, Nov. 1. There was wine. There was beer. There was chocolate. There were raffle baskets. There was music. There were people in attendance supporting great and meaningful programs that help those food insecure in our community. Thank you to all our donors, volunteers, the Litt Hour Band, and participants for a wonderful evening.

October 15, 2024 – Welcome P-Tech Students Jay, Allison, Marissa, Kylie, Timothy and Zakery. These wonderful students came to volunteer at the food pantry last Wednesday, taking on a multitude of jobs from breaking down boxes to filling orders to helping our guests out with their bags of groceries. In return, they learned about Nourishing our Neighbors through offering healthy choices. Each student is pursuing a career through the P-Tech program and we got to chat a little about their choices as well. (Thanks to Jen Sponnable, School Counselor and Alex Ruggeri, Communications) The food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 9-12 and on Saturday from 10-12. Saturday volunteers are always needed and welcome!

August 28, 2024 – And it is official – we will partner with a Lexington work team as they become our official cleaning crew at One Church Street! We are so pleased that our desire to become a center for resources in the community allows us to work with and promote the good work that Lexington provides. Can’t wait to meet the team!!!

August 28, 2024 – The pics below are images from yesterday – Food Pantry delivery day. I nearly swoon when I see so many fresh veggies come out of the van, thanks to Kristina and her mom, who went to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York yesterday. But it is hard work loading, unloading and putting all this on shelves.
By the end of today, shelves will be empty again but our guests will have nutritious foods to share with their families. Approximately one ton of food per week arrives, is unloaded by volunteers, and heads home with our guests.
And have you ever heard of Super Milk? That container needs a cape!!!

August 24, 2024 – We’re here at Harmony of Art 2 and giving away free tomatoes and peaches!! One Church Street – nourishing our neighbor!!
Today was a GREAT day. Tiring, but I met so many new friends. When you are willing to give away free gifts, to engage, to teach, you cannot imagine how many people are delighted by a free peach or a cup of tiny tomatoes. And then, one man went to a local orchard and came back with a bag of apples for us to give away because he was so impressed with our desire to share with others. And yes – we gave it ALL away. Special thanks to Barbara and Dan Cameron. They have been the best helpers two years in a row and they were such a blessing to me today.

August 22, 2024 – What an extraordinary night of gathering friends, families, volunteers, supporters and folks who are just learning about OCS!! We are grateful to Union Hall Inn Restaurant, Caroga Arts Collective, Marissa Mae’s Confections LLC, and our sponsors John and Sunday Blackmon. It felt like a family reunion in the best way!

August 13, 2024 – We were also privileged to give a tour to some special NBT visitors today. Our Treasurer, Billy Easterly (Asst VP and Branch Manager here in J’town) and Alicia Brockway (VP and Business Banking Regional Manager) came through the building on their way to a meeting, and I was able to show them the whole building. Alicia was impressed by our hard work, fundraising and by the beauty of our renovated facility. We were impressed that they came to see us! Don’t they both have great smiles? i guess that’s just how people feel when they walk through this building and realize how hard we are working to nourish our neighbors. Thanks, NBT!!

August 13, 2024 – How much Good News? Hmmmm….how much time do you have?

Pic 3: Rick rolls in some of the MANY cartons of food and veggies that will be given away tomorrow. A team of 8 volunteers helped unpack and stock shelves for our neighbors tomorrow. Brilliant idea to purchase those dollies, Rick!

August 5, 2024 – Today was a full day – or was it a day-full…a day FULL of gratitude and celebration with our community for our grand Ribbon Cutting of OCS, to Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, to the Brown family, especially Dee and Dick Brown, to our Steering Committee, Sunday and John Blackmon, representatives from our elected officials (Assemblyman Smullen, Senator Walczyk, Congresswoman Stefanik), and to our Johnstown Mayor, Amy Praught – forgive me if I have missed you or your name! We are FULL of gratitude and excitement because of your generosity and support. Look for more good news ahead! (There’s always more good news, right?)

The certificate from the City of Johnstown that literally made me tear up. It meant so much to be supported by our community – thanks to Mayor Praught and the City Council for being present today to help launch us!

See! Someone likes the video game! Go Declan!

The Ribbon Cutting ceremony.

August 3, 2024 – Vinnie gets it. He understands that not everyone who comes to the Pantry is an adult. He understands that families come in together to get the food they need. But does it have to be a chore? Well, today Vinnie from Toying Around called me and said he had a ‘heavy gift’ for OCS. Gold bars? Bags of coins? Nope. A child-sized arcade game for the little ones who end up waiting while mom or dad or grandma get the food they need. Vinnie also pointed out that it is reminiscent of the old Y that had a pool table and other games for kids to play. Thanks for really thinking about our neighbors, Vinnie, and thanks for being such a Superhero to us.

July 31, 2024 – This is what I’m talking about! We’re home!

July 27, 2024 – FIRST DAY!! Thanks to our dedicated Pantry volunteers. And thanks to the gentleman who brought all those fresh cucumbers to give away. (Favorite cucumber recipe?)

July 25, 2024 – I’m just going to post some amazing pictures of our move today with thanks to all of our stalwart Food Pantry volunteers who worked so hard today to get the Pantry from 26 North Market Street to One Church Street. Let us know how we did. Zoom in on our artist renderings and then check out the space we created. We think it looks pretty great! Thanks to our contractor VMJR and CT Male, architects.

July 24, 2024 – Pantry volunteers, locksmiths (Stewart and Bergen), security system folks (Brewer), carpenters (Yankee Hill Painting & Repairs )–it’s all happening at OCS! We have some additional work that needs to be completed in the back storage room and Food Pantry Office area before the moving folks arrive on Friday. Yep, looks like the next time the Pantry opens their door on Saturday morning, it will be officially at One Church Street!!

The building would not be complete without the expertise of Alex who walked us through exactly the right solutions to our security/lock issues. He helped us make exactly the right decisions. Thanks, Alex!
July 23, 2024 – Another day of working and moving and finishing the details today at OCS. So grateful to Clark and Jonathan (VMJR), Ruby & Quiri for the fab appliances, Mike Lawlor getting our phones ready….so many people doing so much for our community.

July 22, 2024 – Yesterday was a busy day–served our meal at NOAH, took folks through the building (elevator ride, anyone??) and moved a piano! Thanks to everyone who is part of this great adventure. This week should be moving week! We’ll keep you posted!

July 19, 2024 – We have been waiting for this day a long time, for years actually. And today we learned that we can officially move into One Church Street. The list of thanks yous will continue to roll out. For today, thanks to our Steering Committee–Andrea Fettinger, Tom Bell, Nancy Brown, Mike Parry, Ann Rhodes, Alistair Morrison. They are the people who helped YOU raise $2.4 million so far, and they are the people who will not give up until the project is completed (phase 2 ahead!!) So grateful!
July 16, 2024 – Today Tom Bell and I went up to Sherman’s to look at the facilities for our Nourish to Flourish summer-casual Gala on August 22. While we were there, we got to listen to some of the amazing Caroga Arts Collective: Caroga Lake Music Festival musicians practicing, and take a long, cool look at the lake outside. We’re really excited to host a gathering of folks to celebrate OCS and learn more about Phase 2–did you get your tickets yet? Stop by the church office or the Chamber of Commerce in Gloversville to get them.

April Sun, Zak Small and Brian Shank. Can’t wait to hear them in performance!

July 15, 2024 – The history of our city comes together at One Church Street, and we welcome successive generations of people who spent time in this building when it was still the YMCA. People like Alex Stewart. Alex, from Stewart and Bergen locksmiths, is helping us establish better building security with the right keys and locks. While talking to him, he told us about his father, Archie Stewart, who was a scuba diving instructor in this very building! In fact, Archie was one of the top five scuba YMCA instructors in the country at one point. So Stewart and Bergen used to be a locksmith and scuba shop!! Wetsuits and keypads, scuba tank fill ups and flippers. Who knew? Make sure to share your stories with us so we can hold on to them and make sure that others hear them. Today I loved hearing about Archie Stewart and his history with One Church Street, and we are grateful to work with his son.

July 11, 2024 – A late night post as I think back over the day…met with Lisa who has some GREAT ideas for collaborative work with OCS as well as an art project in the wings. (Learn more about her project at https://pilotlightchefs.org/…/teacher-appreciation…/ ) Chatted with ‘Brother Rocky’, my favorite elevator builder/technician who assured us we were ready to ‘launch’ our elevator, and learned more about the fire safety system that will need to be inspected next week. This is sophisticated stuff!

July 9, 2024 – Every day is one step closer to Opening Day! Today was clean up day. Jose and Benny took care of all the construction dust that has been generated and our windows have never looked so clear and sparkly! Thanks to them. Outside and in the back, ‘Jonathan-squared ‘(both men are named Jonathan) are taking a look at our AC unit which is malfunctioning, but it will be ready to cool us down by Day 1! So grateful for the team of people who are working to get us up and running. We’ll keep you posted!

July 8, 2024 – We are getting closer and closer to moving day! Today our security installer, Joe Brewer, was getting in some final work on the cameras he installed. We are serious about your safety and the safety of everyone in the building. And Mike Lawlor was pulling the wiring through the walls so we can hook up our phones and computers. Internet is IN but we will not have an open network in order to keep our signal strong. Are you getting excited yet? I don’t even have words….

Sorry Mike–caught you in action, but totally missed a picture of YOU. Maybe this is a better picture anyhow because Mike is always quietly working, helping and doing the good work of keeping the church running in so many ways.
July 1, 2024 – Notice anything different about our building? Yup! OPENING SOON! We’ll keep you posted about the details. We’ll be moving our office and our Food Pantry into the new space within the next month.

June 17, 2024 – Tour day at OCS!! As we prepare to move into the building, we wanted people to have a chance to see it before we start bringing in all of our furniture and other things. Plus the A/C is amazing!! Took our 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. folks through the building. I think this is the ENTIRE 8 am service!!!

June 15, 2024 – I had the opportunity to take today’s volunteers through our nearly completed Food Pantry area at One Church Street. Don’t they look cool, in more ways than one?? (With the air conditioning working so well, and a heat wave rolling in, I am considering how I can stay in the building from Tuesday – Friday next week!) (L:R) Becky, Hans, Lucy, Matt, Kathi, Jeanine and Lisa!!!

June 11, 2024 – Today we met with Mary, Rick, Mike from the Pantry, and Alistair, to start measuring out the spaces in the Pantry area for the freezers, fridges and shelving. Exciting times!!

June 5, 2024 – Remember that little post about getting new electrical wiring for OCS? We’ve officially closed down Church Street!!!! All so we can nourish our neighbors and open our building!!! Grateful….

June 5, 2024 – Ron Wood, head of our OCS building project, told us he drove all the way back to Johnstown last night from his home in order to see the lights behind the stained glass windows. He was shocked that I had not seen them yet. So tonight is my night and your night. Notice how the contractor made sure that we can see all of those stained glass windows as soon as the sun disappears from the sky. The center window is particularly beautiful and I’m so glad we have the opportunity to really see the detail work. Thanks to Adirondack Stained Glass Works for their beautiful work. And thanks to our donor who had the vision to create something beautiful for One Church Street.

June 4, 2024 – W-o-w!! Another exciting day at OCS! First construction update meeting in the conference room….Spectrum is installing internet (yes!)…..and Alex from Stewart and Bergen locksmiths is helping us ‘key’ the building!!

May 30, 2024 – Wait…how do you move a filing cabinet by yourself? Ah, right! The trusty wagon! More furniture from the liquidation warehouse. for OCS!! Thanks to Willing Helpers once again for the van that made the difference!

May 28, 2024 – Honestly…I don’t think I can express the REAL excitement I feel today. Thanks to Jeanine LoDestro–a conference table for $100–what?!? they threw in the chairs for FREE! Again–thanks to Jeanine! And here it is–the first actual, professional meeting at One Church Street in our new conference room. We welcomed Gynger Connolly from Blinds, Shades and More (Schenectady) as she consulted with us about low-cost ways to keep heat out and warmth in at OCS. She was delighted to be our first official meeting, and so were we. I have been bubbling with joy ever since this morning–we can see over the horizon, my friends and the future looks nourishing!!

May 22, 2024 – What a difference a day makes!! The carpeting is also in! Check out these photos to see how beautiful these rooms look now.

May 21, 2024 – Almost the same view as the last post but look at the floor!! The new floor is in! The new floor is in!! We are getting closer and closer to opening day. The wide open space is all for the Food Pantry. Won’t it be amazing to see shelves of food, refrigerators and freezers filling this space?

May 10, 2024 – While Mtr. Laurie is away, she is keeping tabs with our contractors, and wait until you see some of these photos–the receptionist’s desk is in, the ceiling tiles are being fitted, light fixtures are being placed–and so much more! We will keep you up on all the Good News that’s coming out of One Church Street–moving day is getting closer and closer, but we still need additional funds to make it work. Please consider donating–your donation might help moms feed their own families. An important reminder for Mother’s Day this weekend–not everyone can make reservations, and some families won’t have enough food.

April 26, 2024 – Lots of changes in our building, changes that whisper “Moving Day is coming up!!!” Remember this phrase? “We Can’t Wait” – because our guests shouldn’t have to.” We can’t, but we still need to raise enough money to meet our current challenge to open these doors!! If you have been wondering about a good time to give – this is that time! We need your help!

April 17, 2024 – To go along with the beautiful yellow daffodils, look at the painting going on at One Church Street! The walls are so bright and cheerful, aren’t they? I even convinced them to create an accent wall in my office space with this same beautiful, warm color.

April 2, 2024 – What a difference a day makes, and a floor makes! Pics of the newly poured floor that just 24 hours ago was pure liquid. Isn’t this amazing? I could tap dance on this floor today, but instead I walked carefully and quietly on it like it was holy ground because I think it is. ![]()

April 1, 2024 – Big day at OCS!!!! Today the gypcrete gets poured on the first floor. I headed over bright and early to see the prep work. We’ll be able to walk on the floor tomorrow. Amazing, right?

March 29, 2024 – Our friend, Tim, who is 14 years old and a PTech student, created this video for One Church Street because he is convinced that our community needs this program. (Tim was the young man who brought us all the hygiene bags with his family earlier this season.) We were both touched and inspired by Tim’s hard work, and would like to share it more widely. Remember that this is TIM’S work and his video. The title? “Be Selfless”. Tim studied our information and turned it into useful and sometimes astonishing statistics (It would take 13.9 years to make as many dinners as NOAH served in a year!!) Tim’s commitment is our commitment – to nourish our neighbor in body, mind and spirit. Thanks Tim.
March 28, 2024 – Talk about new life!! Alistair toured OCS today with our Food Pantry leaders so they could visualize where things will be placed – freezers, refrigerators, non-perishables and of course–our guests who come to the Pantry!! Everyone seems really excited about the possibilities. I’m throwing in some extra photos of the original wood floors (too damaged to use–we pour a new floor on Monday!) and the elevator work. Folks–we have an elevator for real!! This is a great pre-Easter post as we move into a weekend that celebrates new life out of death. The YMCA could have been a dead building, but you are helping us give it new life.

March 27, 2024 – A few more pics of the elevator work being done…and I hear the floor is ready to be poured on the ground level! So much is coming together and we celebrate the joy of new life at this time of year! One Church Street will bring new life to our neighbors AND our neighborhood. Want to be a part of the action? Help us by donating to our Challenge! We are about 10% of the way to the final $100k needed to OPEN THE BUILDING!!! Yep, you read that right. Join us. Donate now.

March 26, 2024 – Today was a construction progress meeting. Alistair and the crew went through the details of what’s happening and it looks like the elevator is well on its way to being finished! And the flooring guy got a little lost and ended up at the library instead but they sent him on his way down to One Church Street. Then these guys were outside on a very nice day doing some of the necessary electrical work to bring full power to the building. There’s a buzz happening at one Church Street!!

March 12, 2024 – Someone asked why the windows at OCS were covered in white paper. The answer: the team is doing asbestos abatement and it requires covering the surfaces, including the windows. So in about 10 days–voila! We’ll be ready to pour the permanent, 100% asbestos free flooring in the building! Step by step, project by project, we move closer to our late spring opening!

March 4, 2024 – Pretty exciting moment – the Kone technician is actually riding IN the elevator!! Work should all be done by this Friday! Nope. We can’t offer rides to anyone yet. We need to maintain safety rules until the elevator is fully certified.
February 26, 2024 – It’s here!!! 6000+ pieces!! The elevator has arrived!! The forklift driver is amazing at this– he measured everything ahead of time to make sure that it would fit through our doorway. And it does just about perfectly. But we did have to remove the door from the hinges in order to get all of these heavy pieces of equipment in. Thanks, gentlemen!!

February 17, 2024 – Alistair visited One Church Street and found that the wood that was delivered the day before was being used to cover over the pool! Why do we need that? Because electrical elements need to be installed in that area, and techs need to be able to access the wiring and components that will be placed in that room. But it kinda gives you the feeling of walking on water, right?

February 15, 2024 – A lot of activity yesterday at One Church Street! Huge pieces of wood delivered and brought into the building to build access decking for continued installation of safety items like the sprinkler system. We can’t wait!!!

February 6, 2024 – We love giving tours of One Church Street and yesterday we were privileged to give our Treasurer, Billy Easterly, a tour of the whole building – basement to third floor!

January 11, 2024 – Most of our OCS work is happening inside–furnaces installed and pumping warmth, wallboard creating a more finished look, and the elevator shaft simply waiting around for an elevator! But we’ve also got some beautifying of the exterior. We are all curious about what happens when the workers rip into that area on the outside of OCS because we’re pretty sure about 500,000 squirrels live in there. Should be fun, right?

2023
December 19, 2023 – Today we spent some time touring the building after our monthly Project Meeting. The changes taking place are dramatic, but we have a way to go before we finish. It is hard to be patient as I imagine our neighbors coming into this building to pick up food, to have a cup of coffee, to take part in a cooking program.

November 28, 2023 – This very cold a.m. Tom Bell, Nancy Brown and Mtr. Laurie were able to give out TWO HUNDRED free breakfasts to our community, thanks to FAGE yogurt and Rogers Orchards!!! On this #GivingTuesday, we were blessed to give back to our amazing community. We nourish ALL our neighbors!

November 13, 2023 – We had visitors from the The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York tour OCS today as we also learned more about their organization. Peyton Yourch and Amelia Gelnett, along with OCS Steering Committee member Nancy Brown, are boots-on-the ground advocates who are passionate about collaboration and who are dedicated to combating food injustice and promoting Food is Medicine–kindred spirits!!!

October 31, 2023 – Alistair, Project Manager for OCS, went over the Food Pantry and NOAH plans in detail with our food program directors, Mary and Colleen. Then we went over to have a tour so we could see the space in person. I always get even more excited when I bring people through because I can watch them ‘catch the Dream’!

October 30, 2023 – On a cold and rainy Monday morning, it warms my heart to see how far along One Church Street is coming!

October 23, 2023 – Just a quiet little picture of Mike, one of our OCS electrical contractors, putting the wiring in the Rector’s office! Mtr. Laurie just loves that little space and looks so forward to settling back into it in 2024! #wecantwait!!!

September 21, 2023 – Let’s get down to basics – building, construction, gas lines, electrical wiring, framing, sheet rock. We’re there at OCS!!! Here are some pictures of the team meeting as we move forward and the journey into “Construction Land”. This is so so so exciting, Johnstown! This building is YOUR building too!

September 4, 2023 – While there is no work happening over Labor Day Weekend at OCS, we had LOTS of work happening last week. So fun to share these pictures with all of you! The space is really taking shape and we love what we are seeing.

August 29, 2023 – Guess what?? The contractors are back! The contractors are back!! The walls are going up and the sauna is coming down!!

Check out the July 30 Parish Report for more detailed information on One Church Street’s progress and the plans going forward!
July 25, 2023 – WHAT is happening with that building, you might ask? GOOD QUESTION!! Today was the Project Meeting with Brian from VMJR and Julie from CT Male to update us on supply issues regarding One Church Street. Bottom line–electrical panels are finally in and work on Phase 2 begins on August 7th! Woot woot! I’m baking a cake, doing a tap dance and welcoming the team back on that day, so you’re in for a treat if you happen to be around then.

June 27, 2023 – What a great day! The official signing of the contract to move into Phase 2 of our One Church Street project! Phase 2 is the BIG phase – duct work, electrical, elevator, heating and cooling, and the installation and completion of the elevator. Completing Phase 2 allows us to open the doors of OCS!
Yes, it is also the most costly phase, so we continue to raise funds and partner with our community – if you know of community partners who would like to be involved in our project, let us know! We love bringing new sponsors on board! Schedule a tour of the building to learn more!!!

June 14, 2023 – Nancy Brown and Mother Laurie got a chance to show some of our local businesswomen around One Church Street helping them see the vision we have for our amazing facility! What a privilege to meet Sarah Eckler, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, and Tricia Martin, Senior VP of Customer Service from Townsend Leather!! We were so impressed by their questions and their interest. Thanks to Townsend Leather for being a local business that cares about their neighbors.

May 17, 2023 – Yesterday was a great day at One Church Street as we walked Northville students through our reconstruction project, told them about the history and talked about the purpose of the building as a Community Resource Center. Thanks go to CT Male and VMJR for planning things well and to Northville Schools for getting student ‘boots on the ground’ in our very real world of hunger, care, career choices, construction and nourishment.

April 14, 2023 – Check out these photos – the new wiring pole is in! Quite a job, but a great day to do it. Why do we need a new pole? Because our wiring needs for One Church Street are increasing and the old pole simply couldn’t do the job any more.

March 29, 2023 – Check out this video to see how the folks from VMJR, who are working so hard to make One Church Street a reality, are lifting two 25 pound bags of grout up to the second floor. Such a nifty little lift, don’t you think?
March 15, 2023 – What is this? This is the opening to the elevator that will occupy this shaft. This is where you will go when you come in the door on Church Street and need to go up one or two floors. This is the doorway to the future of accessibility. We are so pleased that we are able to see all of this from the beginning of construction to when we occupy a beautiful new space. And we are grateful for the construction crew from VMJR who show up every day ready to help us realize God’s Big Dream for this community. #nourishingourcommunity

March 7, 2023 – Had a GREAT onsite meeting today to make essential decisions about electrical wiring and placement. Thanks to GPI, National Grid, our electrical subcontractor, VMJR and our own Mike Lawlor from St. John’s/One Church Street. And then this – building up the walls of the elevator shaft on the first floor! Heading up towards the second!!

February 21, 2023 – Great things happening at One Church Street: Site visit with our contractors, VMJR, to go over progress, decisions about our wood finishes, and the second floor hole is cut for the elevator shaft!

Check out THIS VIDEO of Mother Laurie flinging dirt into the elevator pit!
February 14, 2023 – Why is concrete exciting? Because this is the foundation, my friends!!! This is the beginning of full accessibility, the beginning of the Big Dream to make sure everyone can come in, feel welcomed, be fed. This IS an exciting day! See them in action HERE.

February 10, 2023 – We are almost ready for the ‘Big Pour’ – the day the concrete is poured for the foundation of the elevator and then for the framing. It is amazing the hard work these men do – bending rebar is not easy! One Church Street was featured in the contractor’s company newsletter because of the difficulty of hand-digging the pit they are now going to fill with concrete. It makes one stop and appreciate the different gifts that people bring into this project to make it a reality. Thanks VMJR, for all the hard, good work you are doing. It may be hard to figure out what they are doing by these pics: concrete will be poured into the blue-ish funnels and guided down, through fabric tubes, into the foundation.

February 6, 2023 – Today was another interesting day at One Church Street. Dave Ritrovato drove his trusty van out to Johnstown to pick up 7 of our smaller cast iron radiators to repurpose them for people doing historic renovations in Capital region homes. The funds from those sales get poured back into renovation projects that Historic Albany Parts Warehouse, a nonprofit organization, is working on in the city of Albany. Thanks to Dave, and to Ron and Wes from our site, who pushed, pulled and wheeled those babies out to Dave’s van. (We have 7 more radiators still available, but you need to move them yourself! Otherwise they have to go to the scrap heap.)

January 31, 2023 – Going through the building to see the progress…you’ll see them getting ready to pour the concrete in the elevator shaft to create a foundation pad. We also had a chance to see the pieces of the boiler in the back of a truck–up to 500 pounds each. Jeff Brown came through with us, asked questions and met the VMJR team. We can’t wait! How about you?

January 28, 2023 – Does anyone know what this cast iron behemoth used to be? Pieces of our leaky, noisy, steamy, expensive boiler! This is great progress as we move forward at One Church Street–all new and efficient heating and cooling! We can’t wait!

January 17, 2023 – Photos from our Site Meeting this morning with CT Male and VMJR–progress is being made!

January 12, 2023 – Dirt and gunk and pipes and HUGE boulders and hard, hard work–remember this part is not glamorous, but it is the best part. VMJR is digging into the basement to get the elevator shaft situated. Alistair said they are down about 8 feet into the ground below floor level at this point. Hard work. Good work. We know this will pay off when we welcome our guests into the building. We are thankful and WE CAN’T WAIT!

November 30, 2022 – Oh happy day, happy day!!! They are done with the asbestos abatement! Next step: demo! You can see the places where the new walls are going to be built and the place where we are going to be putting in the elevator.

October 11, 2022 – Work has officially begun! Here are some quite UNglamorous yet very exciting photos! The construction crew is on site and the containment system for the asbestos is being built.

July 26, 2022 – We keep working towards the day of demolition! Construction planning meeting with the One Church team: reps from CT Male, VMJR and of course, St. John’s!!!

June 22, 2022 – How incredibly thoughtful that C.T. Male Associates chose One Church Street on Positive Media Day to be their focus!

We’re on TV!!
